Plot Twist! Finding Good in the Unexpected
In case no one has asked you yet today... what's good?
What’s Good?
Welcome to our first Monday edition! In addition to the new day, you’ll find a new, truncated format and other new surprises along the way. Like many unexpected changes, this shift brings new possibilities. Sometimes the best moments happen when life doesn't go according to plan – and that's exactly what we're exploring this week.
It’s time to reclaim Mondays. We’ll attempt to use this newsletter as the antidote to the Sunday Scaries. What if Monday’s didn’t have to suck. What is Mondays were “What’s Good?”
Firefly of the Week
The Hidden Brain podcast illuminates the unexpected psychology behind life's plot twists. Start with their episode "Blessings In Disguise" – it's a perfect companion for embracing life's detours.
The Gift of the Unexpected
The very things we're most afraid of are often the things that set us free. And that's why the unexpected, and our response to it, is a gift.
— Mel Robbins
Life has a way of surprising us. We make plans, set goals, and map out the "right" path—only to find ourselves standing at the edge of something unplanned, something uncertain, something… terrifying.
But what if fear isn’t a warning sign to stop? What if it’s a signal that we’re on the verge of something transformative?
The truth is, the very things we resist—the changes we didn’t ask for, the disruptions we didn’t expect—often hold the key to our freedom. They shake us loose from our routines, challenge our assumptions, and force us to grow in ways we never would have chosen on our own.
The unexpected is a gift, not because it is easy, but because it reveals our own resilience. It teaches us that we are capable of adapting, of rising, of finding strength where we thought we had none.
So this week, instead of resisting the unknown, try leaning in. Instead of shrinking from fear, ask what it might be trying to teach you. Instead of seeing the unexpected as an obstacle, look for the doorway hidden within it.
You just might find that freedom is waiting on the other side.
Three Good Things
INSIGHT: Research shows people who find meaning in life's disruptions report higher life satisfaction. Your "wrong turn" might be the universe's shortcut.
EXPLORE: Write down your last three "lucky accidents" – times when an unexpected change led to something positive.
ACTION: Challenge yourself to tackle each unexpected moment this week with curiosity instead of resistance. Literally ask, in the moment, “what’s good here?”
Weekly Challenge
Identify one thing you’ve been avoiding out of fear. Is it a conversation? A risk? A change? Take one small step toward it. You might just discover that fear was never a barrier—it was an invitation. You've got this.
